Eastern Neck Wildlife Refuge

Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge is located at the union of the Chester River and the Chesapeake Bay. This 2,285 acre island refuge is a major feeding and resting place for migratory and wintering waterfowl, namely the Tundra Swan, on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Additionally, Eastern Neck is also one of the last habitats of the Delmarva Fox Squirrel, an endangered species native to Maryland. This five-hour tour will allow paddlers to experience open water conditions, yet still remain in the protective barriers of the Refuge. The abundance of wildlife combined with the magnificence of this tidal environment creates a dual experience of both beauty and skill.

Mayo Beach/South River

Mayo Beach is located at the mouth of the South River and is perhaps the best open water launch on the western banks of the Chesapeake Bay. The beach launch allows paddlers a unique view into the main channel of the Chesapeake. Whether paddling north to Turkey Point or south to Popham Creek, the choices for paddlers are almost endless when it comes to exploring the many coves and creeks that line this beautiful shoreline.

Wye Island

Local history abounds with stories of this beautiful island's previous inhabitants. It has been said that pirates once exploited Wye Island as a hideout. These days, it is inhabited by deer, fox, ospreys, and eagles. Located on Maryland's Eastern Shore, this 2,800 acre Natural Resource Management Area is framed by dozens of rivers, creeks, and coves creating a unique location to test all your navigation skills. Wye Island has over 30 miles of navigable coastline to follow and explore. The Island itself sits in the middle of the Wye River, a main tributary of the Eastern Bay.
